Tax fight continues in Nebraska

LINCOLN — The fight over tax reform started anew last week with the release of a report from the Legislature’s Tax Modernization Committee.

Arguments over what tax changes were needed in the state began last year, when Gov. Dave Heineman proposed legislation to eliminate the state income taxes and $2.4 billion in sales tax exemptions, exempt as much as $12,000 in retirement income for income tax purposes and make up the difference by broadening the sales and use tax base.
